School Board News 2007-2008 January Midyear Report
Accreditation
Worked with accreditation committee, parents and faculty on rewording the mission statement.
Worked with accreditation committee on writing and submitting Domain I of the accreditation process which includes the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of the school.
Adopt-A-Student
For Adopt-A-Student, 144 families donated to the Adopt-A-Student fund at Orientation 2007 for a total of $3,020. We continue to offer school families partial tuition support through Private School Aid, who determines a family's qualifications.
We will continue to solicit donations for the fund. During the Catholic Schools Week, we will have students attend mass in their uniform and collect donations. We will also offer thanks and special devotions during mass for all those who have donated throughout the year.
Communications
Fall Projects:
Edline/Website Review: Reviewed Edline for clarity and consistency. Compiled a list of existing problems, suggested changes, possible additions, etc. Met with school personnel to determine how to address the problems.
Created and distributed "Parent Interest Form" and compiled data to assess the number of families interested in applying to SVDP next year and in the future.Reviewed and critiqued "Opt-Out Media Release Form."
Continued to work with Tiger's Mouth Editor and PTO Publicity Chair to coordinate and streamline SVDP publicity. Reviewed and dismissed creating a Photo Club made of parent volunteers and implementing Photo Shop on the Web for parents to purchase pictures of their children.
Spring Projects:
Edline: Continue working on format consistency on Edline.
Conduct Surveys for Assessment:
A. January 2008—Past Student Survey--Send out questionnaire in January to past SVDP students who are Freshmen and Sophomores. Survey's goal is to get input on how SVDP prepared the students for high school.
B. March 2008—Parent Survey—Conduct a parent survey which includes approximately 5 questions. Survey's goal is to identify potential issues for review.--Review first survey and action plan and report on the action plan that was developed.
Extracurricular
Fall Projects:
Coaches' Gift-Giving: Committee member sent out the letter and collected money for all sports.
Spring Projects:
Review coaches' gift-giving process and information dissemination.Investigate showing the "good parenting at games" film next year. Goal is uniformity of expectations with parents, teachers and coaches.
Generate ideas on how to maintain uniformity between the boys and girls athletic programs after school.
Finance
Fall Projects:
Reviewed monthly income, bank and balance statements.Recommended diverting $2500 per month of interest income from school savings account to increase the Adopt - A - Student account.
Calculated "cost to educate" on a per student basis, including the effect of church subsidy, PTO funds and family discount for multiple children enrolled.
Compared tuition and family discount for multiple children with area Catholic elementary schools. Tuition rate is comparable. SVDP family discount is greater. Recommended 3.5% increase in current tuition rate for 2008 - 2009 based on increased operating costs. The school board approved increase.
Spring Projects:
2008 - 2009 school budget.
Study teacher salary rate as compared to HISD and other Catholic elementary schools.
Long-Range Planning
Fall & Spring Project:
The committee is developing a long range expansion plan for the school, to evaluate adding one classroom per grade. This involves land planning/acquisition with the pastor's supervision and approval, and closely working with the parish, CCE, and the Church Ministries at St. Vincent's. Research of demand by future students and the feasibility study of a fund raising campaign for new construction is under consideration. Kirksey Architects has been working closely with the committee and pastor to determine the best possible parish redesign.
Safety
Fall Projects:
Focused on research and evaluation of the physical plant's safety: Experts in the field including former parent, Brian Lumpkin (Assistant Chief/HPD Internal Investigations) and ADT made recommendations on how SVDP can improve its environment. Implemented consistent locking of the PFC with an operable buzzer system to facilitate surveillance.Reviewed Policy for Pedestrians at Carpool—currently the walkers are collected in the hall on the Buffalo Speedway side. They walk south on Buffalo Speedway and right on Bellefontaine. The walkers leave when carpool ends on the Buffalo Speedway side.
Created and posted signage on the campus about:Cellular phone use at Buffalo Speedway and Holcombe Encouraging the use of sidewalks "Event Entrance Only" -posted on Buffalo Speedway side on gates left open during athletic events.
Controlled Access - for vestment hallway, PFC, PFC kitchenette
Spring Projects:
Continuing to assess and compare key control access vendors for SVDP campus— working on implementation and installation of new system planned for Fall 2008.
Student Affairs
Fall Projects:
Instituted the Service Project Program. PreK, K, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th grade students participated in a variety of projects including one specific for their grade.
Implemented the Virtues Program flyers in the Tiger's Mouth.Jazzed up Mary's statue enclave in Intermediate building and provided weekly flowers.Brought back Camp Kappe for 5th graders.Brought a ropes course to 7th graders.
Will evaluate for next year. Reviewed Edline with Lois. This is ongoing.
Spring Projects:
Continue Service Project Program for most grades to include 1st, 3rd and 7th this spring.Develop a "Modesty/Manners/Pride" program for girls and boys this spring. Develop a list of appropriate topics relating to religion/church/behavior to be discussed by the priest at Student Mass.
Develop a Technology plan for our school and the accreditation process.
Academic Rally to be held January 18th.
Cabrini Festival the week of March 10th.
Develop an orientation for 6th graders transitioning to Middle School.
Review team building trips for Middle School.
Academic Awards in May 2008. |
