In 2019, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School became the first Catholic school in the nation to be STEM-certified by NISE (National Institute for STEM Education).
This was a rigorous certification program for our teachers to learn not only how to use technology in their classroom, but more importantly, how to engage our students to think creatively, collaborate with their peers and communicate. STEM teaching at St. Vincent's can be used in all classrooms, not just science and math. It is a way to engage and challenge our students to be resilient and adaptable 21st century learners.
Tech in the classrooms:
Our middle schoolers are loaned a Chromebook in 6th grade and keep it for three years. We also have Chromebooks sets for 2nd-5th grade classes and a computer lab. Along with the hardware comes the responsibility to teach our students how to navigate digital environments responsibly and efficiently.
Wait Through 8th Program
Over 50% of our primary and intermediate families and 40% of our middle school families have signed the pledge to delay getting a Smartphone for their child until after 8th grade. Our parents are also committed to staying informed about internet safety and we have visiting speakers on campus throughout the year.
